Our Story
I was never a granola person growing up. But when I started Flatbush Granola, my sister reminded me that we grew up around 'healthy' cereals as kids. Our parents used to try and get us to eat Red River Cereal, Muesli or Cream of Wheat when I'd much rather have eaten Fruit Loops or Frosted Flakes...sigh...childhood. It was a long and winding road, but in recent years I got tired of eating the over-processed stuff and started experimenting with my own breakfast recipes.
Granola-making was kickstarted in the early 2000's, when I sampled this amazing granola at a gourmet food store on the West Coast. It was a harmonious blend of all these nuts and fruits and I broke the bank buying many, many bags to bring back home to New York. But that supply eventually came to an end and I got tired of asking my BFF to ship it to me across oceans and seas. My granola love affair was on pause for the moment.
Some time later, while visiting another good friend in Hawaii, I was treated to her slamming homemade granola. This was it! I demanded a lesson and after some excellent tutoring and a LOT of eating, I was anxious to get back to Brooklyn and try my hand.
Friends, family, colleagues and clients have long been the recipients of my granola making and now I'm delighted to share my personal granola blends with you, each one made from the heart. It's another way to spread love, the Brooklyn way and I hope you enjoy!
